G10 Case

This weekend I picked up a case for my new Canon G10 camera. I had to order it at Yamada Denki, since not a single store that I went to had it in stock. It’s actually a very nice retro styled leather case.

The top and bottom parts separate easily and quickly so you can take pictures in a snap. All of the controls are open and easy to reach while the case is attached. Sorry I couldn’t take a picture of the camera in the case (I was using it to take these photos).

The bottom half screws into the bottom of the camera. So you can unsnap a couple buttons and let the top half dangle when you’re taking the photos.

Also a tripod can be attached while the case in on. Also there is openings on the side for the neck strap so you can hang it around your neck while it’s in the case. All in all a fantastic case. I recommend it to any G10 owner.

P.S. I’m now officially past 10,000 hits! Nice!

Fresh!

Yesterday Yurie dragged out her almost ancient 15 year old bread maker. Set it up and threw all of the ingredients in and let it do it’s magic for 4 hours. Maybe newer bread makers are faster nowadays. I don’t know, I had never seen one in action until yesterday.

The loaf came out really nice. I was surprised that the old bread maker could do such a good job. I guess bread makers are built to last.

It was so fluffy and delicious. We just ate it plain while it was still warm.

P.S. Recently there was a problem on my blog where you couldn’t click on the pictures to see the full size image. This was thanks to something WordPress did recently. I’ve found the problem and fixed it so now you can see all of my pictures in their full size glory.

Mirrors and Lights

One thing you’ll notice when you’re driving around Japan is that there are these huge convex mirrors all over. Usually they are at blind corners, so that you can see if anything is coming. The streets are very thin sometimes and often there is only enough space for one car to turn at a time.

You can also see in the picture the very strange street lights of Kakuda. At night time they give off an eerie green glow. Some people I’ve shown this too, have said the look like UFOs. If that’s the case it would fit in with Kakuda relation with all things space and rockets,.

Italian Mac

Here’s the new McDonald item for this month it’s a relatively simple, but ultimately delicious, Italian Chicken Filet-O. I remember Burger King in Canada had a similar sandwich a few years ago. Mostly it’s just chicken parmesan in a bun. How could it go wrong.

I’ve had it a couple times now, and I like it very much. It’s kind of funny that the “filet-o” was taken from “Filet-O Fish”, but used in a completely wrong way. Strange, but interesting!

Old Soap

I always see this curious old fashioned soap at all of the supermarkets. I know next to nothing about it, I just like the funny picture of the boy on the package. I wonder if the soap is actually good or not. I might have to buy it one day and give it a try.

Around the Neighborhood

I was walking around my neighborhood snapping pictures and getting used to my new camera. I took a bunch of photos, but the one I liked the most was this shot in between some houses.

It makes Kakuda look very old fashioned (sometimes it is). The water drainage is just an open concrete ditch, and the houses are really old. I like the perspective of the shot.

Rilakkuma In Bread Form

Rilakkuma is appearing everywhere these days. His charm has spread across all merchandise imaginable. Include bread now. Yurie bought some bread for us knowing I like Rilakkuma. She got a curry bread for me.

Kewpie Meets Touch

As people who have been reading my blog for a while know I love the cell phone strap Kewpies mixed with famous manga characters. I picked up a new one at 7/11 since it was on sale. It’s Minami from the manga series “Touch”.

touch-kewpie1

The series was extremely popular in Japan. It’s about twin brothers playing high school baseball (which is a huge deal over here). Minami was the childhood friend and love interest for the twins. Here’s a close up out of the package.

My wife said she looks “debu” which means chubby in Japanese. I replied “all Kewpie are debu”!

Truly Japanese Flavored Chips

I came across these two flavors of potato chips. The flavors are 100% Japanese. I don’t think you would find these any where else in the world. The first is “Sesame” flavor.

sesame-flavour-chips

It tasted kind of like the sesame salad dressing or the dipping sauce for yakiniku (grilled meat). The second is “Yuzu Shoyu).

yuzu-shoyu-chips

Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit. It’s kind like a cross between a tangerine and a lemon. Shoyu is just soy sauce. The flavor was interesting. If you can imagine what a salty tangerine potato chip would taste like, that’s pretty much the flavor. I liked it, but I don’t know if I would have it again. The sesame flavored ones I would definitely have again.

KISS + Camera + Kids = Awesome and Cute!

I was reading some of the comments made by Tokyo5 on the Konnichiwa blog, and i found out about the TV campaign for the Canon EOS “Kiss” digital camera. I quickly rushed to Youtube and found these cute ads from Japan. Kids in KISS makeup singing about the camera to the tune of  “I Was Made For Loving You”. Awesome!

When they shoot flames and sparks out of their mouths it’s especially cute. Credit for this post goes to Tokyo5 for mentioning this in his comments on the Konnichiwa blog. Here’s a link to his more informative post. KISS ads in Japan Check it out!
