Slime

Above is a picture of a Slime meat bun. Right now Family Mart is selling them for a limited time because of the DQ 25th anniversary. One of my students gave it to me. I guess he knew I liked Slimes. I felt a little guilty eating it since the Slime was smiling at me, but I did it anyways. It tasted like a normal Chinese meat bun. Right after eating it though I did level up to level two!!

Tokyo Food

When we went to Tokyo in February there was two restaurants that we particularly enjoyed. Well one of them was actual a food stand, but who’s counting.

King Kebab is in Akihabara, and they sell kebab pita sandwiches. Middle Eastern food being kind of a hard to find item in Japan (especially Sendai), this was quite a treat. It was incredibly delicious! Next time I go back to Tokyo, I’m going straight back here first. The other place we went to was the Court Lodge.

They serve Sri Lankan food. It’s similar to Indian food, but also quite different. Using very different spices, the curries tend to have a very unique flavor when compared to Indian curries. Sri Lankan curries are also quite spicy too.  If you’re in Shinjuku, and want some good food, I highly recommend it.

The Other States

I previously reported on the super delicious “Texas” burger at McDonald’s. Well I managed to try out two others so far. The “New York” burger was only available for just over a week and only in limited quantities.

The flavor was good, but nothing really special. Just think a Quarter Pounder with Dijon mustard and Monterey Jack cheese. The burger that’s available right now is the “Hawaiian” burger.

It’s not bad as well, kind of similar to their other burgers that have egg on it. The main difference in the “Loco Moco” sauce, which to me tastes sort of like BBQ sauce. The only problem I have is when you try to bite it the egg keeps on slipping out the back, due to being covered with sauce. It makes it a pretty messy burger to eat. All that’s left to try is the “California” burger, which I think might start next week. I’ll let you know how that is when I try it.

BBQ and Bacon

quarter pound bacon BBQ

The new burger at McDonald’s this month in Japan is the relatively simple sounding “Quarter Pounder Bacon & BBQ”. It actually starts today so I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I’m sure it’ll be good though, it’s a Quarter Pounder with bacon on it. How could that be bad?  Everything is made better with bacon.

Oishinbo

oishinbo

I’ve been reading this great manga lately called Oishinbo. It’s all about food and cooking. Each book focuses on one type of ingredient, like the one pictured above is “fish”.  Each book also has a couple recipes in it. You can actually learn a lot about Japanese food by reading these so check it out! There’s already 5 volumes available in English.

I Saw Subway

You know you’ve been away from home for too long when you get super excited seeing a Subway restaurant. If it had been a Quiznos, I might have died on the spot!

subway

This was at Narita airport. I was so happy. It had been over a year and a half since I had a submarine sandwich. I proceeded to gobble one down with gusto! (I got a 6 inch tandoori chicken and a 6 inch roast beef in case anyone was wondering. Delicious!!)

Lee Everything

Recently they had promotion for Lee curry (my favorite instant curry), mixing it with various other popular products. How does curry flavored Pretz sound? I’ll tell you they were pretty good.

How about some curry flavored sausages too? Well meat is always good!

They also had some other stuff like rice crackers and the sort. I only tried these two though.

Tamago Update!!

This is an addition to the last post that I did. I stated how I felt guilty eating the Tamago Double Mac. Well now I don’t have to feel so bad, because some people in Japan are eating this monstrosity!

mega-tamago

Yes, a Mega Tamago!! Add one more hamburger patty, more bacon, lots more mayo, and you have a Japanese exclusive sandwich that will surely send you into cardiac arrest. Who say all of the food in Japan is healthy!?

Tamago Double Mac

tamago double mac

Here’s the latest new burger at McDonald’s. It’s the heart stopping “Tamago Double Mac”. Tamago means egg by the way. This burger just says cholesterol with it’s two beef patties, egg, bacon, and pepper mayonnaise. I must have been living here too long, because the first time I had a single patty Tamago Mac, I thought it was too unhealthy. Now I had the double and I’m starting to like it. Soon I’ll be eating even more bad stuff like mochi or red bean paste (that’ll never happen)!

By the way last month they had a Spicy Black Pepper Juicy Chicken sandwich. It was quite spicy and quite delicious! The red one wasn’t new and is a regular on the menu.

The Viking

Yesterday I went to my father-in-laws place of work, Sendai Hotel, for an excellent and expensive buffet. It was fantastic to say the least. All of the food was really high quality, and plus there was unlimited beer to drink. I drank almost 4 litres!

They also had some carnival like games. I found out that I’m a crack shot with a cork gun in the target shooting game. Even after ingesting large amounts of beer. Now you might be wondering why I called this post “The Viking”. Well Japanese people don’t usually say buffet, they call it a viking. No doubt due to it’s links to the Swedish tradition of smorgasbord.
