The Other States

I previously reported on the super delicious “Texas” burger at McDonald’s. Well I managed to try out two others so far. The “New York” burger was only available for just over a week and only in limited quantities.

The flavor was good, but nothing really special. Just think a Quarter Pounder with Dijon mustard and Monterey Jack cheese. The burger that’s available right now is the “Hawaiian” burger.

It’s not bad as well, kind of similar to their other burgers that have egg on it. The main difference in the “Loco Moco” sauce, which to me tastes sort of like BBQ sauce. The only problem I have is when you try to bite it the egg keeps on slipping out the back, due to being covered with sauce. It makes it a pretty messy burger to eat. All that’s left to try is the “California” burger, which I think might start next week. I’ll let you know how that is when I try it.

Getting Fit

I recently got my health check result back, and to no surprise they said I was too fat. So in an effort to shape up I picked up Wii Fit Plus.

It’s pretty fun for a game that’s basically just exercises. Hell it’s probably the only way I could be tricked into doing exercise. In just one week doing it for only 30 minutes a day, and doing a bit of mild dieting, I’ve managed to shed just over two kilos. So far so good!

Thin

I saw this clip on the internet of a really super thin house.

Would you live in a house like this? The kitchen in the front hallway!?!

New Karamucho

In he past couple months there has been a couple new versions of my favorite Japanese snack, Karamucho. One being a simple 5 times more spicy version.

The other being crunchy little crackers in the shape of chillies.

Both were pretty good. The 5 times spicy one was especially hot. I’m sure the next version will be 10 times more spicy. They seem to keep doubling the level every year.

Red Cliffs

I recently got copies of the two “Red Cliff” movies on Blu-ray. I had to order them from Hong Kong, because the Japanese versions didn’t have the foresight to include English subtitles (no English-speaking people live in Japan……right?!?).

These movies are so good! It too bad the North American release is going to be edited down to one movie. What can they possibly cut out? If you want to see the real version go get these.

Cold New Years

Here’s a couple photos I took when we went to the nearby shrine for our New Years visit. It was actually the first and only substantial snow fall that we’ve had this year. It was also bloody cold too!

It’s hard to take a nice photo when you have hundreds of snow flakes whizzing past your lens.

Don’t worry though, all the snow disappeared a couple days later. In fact it was a balmy 14 degrees a couple days ago.

Giant!!

I know it’s a bit late, but this is what I got for Christmas from my wife.

A giant slime! I put one of my older slimes in the picture so that you can appreciate the size difference. I personally think that my new slime would probably be the actually real life size of the slimes in Dragon Quest (if slime were real that is). Amazingly cute!

Big Texas

At McDonald’s over the next four months they’re having a new series of burgers called “Big America”. It’s basically Quarter Pounders with different toppings on them. As you can see below in the pictures they all look pretty delicious.

Today I had the “Texas” burger, and I have to say it’s pretty damn good. The topping are cheese, BBQ sauce, fried onions (which were nice and crunchy), bacon, and a spicy (I think jalapeño) relish. I’ll definitely eat it again. As the new burgers come out I’ll continue to update my opions on them in new posts.

Meat Crackers

These crackers might look like meat, and kind of taste like meat, but they are unfortunately not meat. When I bought it I thought it was going to be some kind of jerky or something. I was rather dismayed to find out that it was only just crackers.

Avatar

The wife and I took a very rare trip to the movie theater today. Having free tickets was the reason. The only movie worth seeing was “Avatar”, the new movie from James Cameron.

It was quite a fun movie to watch. We saw it in 3D too. It’s only the second 3D movie I’ve ever seen, so saying it was the best one is a bit strange, but it used the effect quite well. Instead of being a gimmick it enhanced the movie, making it more beautiful. On a side note it’s crazy how expensive going to the movies is in Japan. If we didn’t have free passes it would have been 1800 yen plus an extra 300 yen charge for the 3D movie each. Bring it to a grand total of 4200 yen for two people! Crazy!! No wonder movie theaters are having trouble these days.
