New Games!!

Today my latest shipment from Play Asia arrived. I got two games for PS3. The first being Demon’s Souls, which is a action RPG. You walk around these dark ominous environments and fend off demons and gigantic monsters that attack you. It’s quite fun, and also quite hard.

The other is called “Hakuna Matata”, otherwise known as “Afrika” on most websites. It is you are a photographer for National Geographic, and you are given task to take wildlife photos. The graphics are really nice and look prttey real. Both these games are available in Japan, but strangely don’t have English available. The versions I got are from Hong Kong and Korea. Why is it Sony isn’t putting all of the languages on every disk if they are coming out at the same time? It’s bewildering.

Doughnut Burger

Mos Burger has a special promotion tie in right now with Mister Doughnuts. The created a “special” burger as a tribute to the doughnut king of Japan. It’s the doughnut burger!

Basically it’s a clever way to get you to spend the same amount of money to get less meat. You can’t even see the doughnut hole when it’s all put together. Mister Doughnuts has returned the favor and made some hamburger shaped doughnuts using chocolate instead of beef. You can see them in the picture below.

They even have doughnuts that look like french fries.

The Man

Who’s the most bad-ass guy in Japan? Easy, it’s Sonny Chiba! Star of tons of karate movies, and samurai dramas. This is a video showcasing some of his finest moments on film. See why Tarantino put him in the “Kill Bill” movies. Warning this video contains scenes of extreme bad-assness, bear punching, bull fighting, skull crushing, eye popping, and other 70’s karate movie violent nonsense (generally not safe for children).

Sticks

Here’s yet another new type of Doritos. This time it’s in stick form. Unfortunately the Doritos scientist are getting lazy, because they taste the same as the plain old normal Doritos. The only new thing is their stick shape. Work harder Doritos scientists!

Whiskey….Expensive Whiskey

The other day I was going to buy a cheap bottle of whiskey at the liquor store, but the wife said not to. The Father in-law has tons of whiskey so she said to ask him. So she asked for a cheap bottle of whiskey, and he returned with this.

A over 5000 yen bottle of Suntory Royal 15 year aged whiskey. You know it’s expensive when it comes in a shiny golden box, and has medallion tied on to it.

I just wonder, if this is what he thinks is cheap, what is an expensive bottle?

Yonezawa Salami

My in-laws picked this up for me in the not to far away Yamagata prefecture. It salami made from Yonezawa beef. Supposedly this beef is quite famous around Japan. Actually beef in Miyagi is also famous. The salami is super delicious! It’s actually the second time they bought it for me. I loved it so much the first time I had to request another box.

New Chips

Here’s a couple new flavors from chip maker Calbee. The first is “Black Curry”. The taste was only slightly different from the normal curry flavor that they have. It wasn’t bad though.

The second flavor is “Chili Shrimp”. It doesn’t so much taste like shrimp but more like the chili sauce of the dish. It was quite good. I have to admit, I’m biased. I really love the dish chili shrimp.

New Microwave

Today we went down to K’S Denki and bought a new microwave. The old one that we had at our house was 18 years old, and was really good at heating plates up, but no so great for heating food.

microwave

Our new one (as seen in the promo photo above), is quite fantastic. Not only is it a microwave, it can also be an oven and a steamer. It has all kinds of fancy modes and such, but is still really easy to use. Not much Japanese is required to figure out how to work it (not like the old one, which was a pain). One interesting thing it can do is you can set what temperature you want the food, and it’ll warm it to exactly that temperature. I have no idea how it senses the temperature of the food, it seems like magic. Tomorrow I’m planning to test out the oven and make a pizza for lunch. I can’t wait. Pizza!
