Nice Case!

I got this DS/PSP case at Sendai Labi on Monday. It’s designed by Gasbook, and features the world famous character Astro Boy. What makes it cool is that it’s done in a retro game pixel art style.

Here’s a close up of Astro.

Bacon Doritos

Here’s one of the latest flavors from Doritos. It’s bacon flavor! Of course this was an easy call for the Doritos flavor scientists, because everything is better with bacon added to it. The package also proclaims it to go well with drinking beer, so basically this product is full of win!

Mc Hot Dog And A Quarter Pound

There are two new things at McDonalds recently. The first being the “Mc Hot Dog”, which is basically just a normal hot dog. I haven’t tried it yet, because it is on the breakfast menu. Yes, the breakfast menu.

mc-hotdog

In my opinion hot dogs are more a lunch or dinner type food. Maybe someday if I wake up early enough I might get to have one. The other new thing is really not new at all. Well, it’s new for Sendai that is. It’s the old classic the “Quarter Pounder”.

Until just a little while ago Japan did not have the Quarter Pounder. Now it’s slowly spreading around Japan. Currently you can only buy it at two stores in Sendai. I have inside information that it will be available at all of the stores later this month. Also the “Cheese Katsu” burger is back from it’s year long slumber. I wrote about it before here.

Funaoka Castle Park

Here’s some photos of Funaoka park during the day time. I took these on Saturday right at the height of the cherry blossoms blooming. Here you can see the giant statue on Kannon on top of the mountain surrounded by cherry blossoms.

funaoka1

Here’s where everyone was sitting. You can see the infamous ugly blue sheets that everyone uses for viewing the flowers.

They also had a small area for food and games.

We went to the top of the mountain where the statue was. It was huge!

funaoka4

Finally here is the view from the top of the mountain.

funaoka5

You can see all of the cherry trees along the river. There is supposedly over 1000 trees by the river, and they stretch out to other cities. Funaoka park is supposed to be one of the best places in Japan to see the cherry blossoms. I’m lucky because it’s about twenty minutes from my house.

Ninja

I got this book at the Family Mart near my house. It’s a book all about Ninja. Yes it’s all in Japanese, but it has a wealth of pictures and illustrations, so I can still understand it a bit.

ninja-book-1

I contains information on Ninja techniques.

ninja-book-2

Ninja weapons.

ninja-book-3

And useful information, like how to tie a Ninja mask.

ninja-book-4

It also has a lengthy section on Ninja history, and a map of Japan showing all of the Ninja clans for the different areas. Maybe someday I’ll be able to read through it when I learn more Japanese.

Cherry Blossoms

Last night we took a drive after work to Funaoka Park to see the cherry blossoms at night time. It was really beautiful. Here’s some pictures I took. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen the cherry blossoms at their peak. In the past I was always too early or too late.

Be Gatchaman

I love all things Gatchaman. I would probably buy any merchandise I saw a stores for the show, but even I have my limits. I would never ever buy the costume pictured below.  How embarrassing would it be to wear that outfit?

Strange Combinations

One thing Japan is really good at is combining things that should never be combined, like potatoes and pizza. This video clip from an old episode of the children’s show “Kamen Rider” it an excellent example. It has a mash-up of a starfish and Hitler. Yes, It’s “Starfish Hitler”!

See Kamen rider fight against an evil Starfish Nazi plot, and find rocks with swastikas on them!

Pringles And More Pringles

Here’s a couple of the new flavors available in Japan right now. The first is called “Cheese Carnival”. You can see all of the different kinds of cheese on the side of the can. It was pretty good. Although I don’t know if I could taste all of the different cheeses.

The second is “Spicy Chicken” flavor. It tasted kind of like KFC fried chicken. I liked this one a lot.

Both were good, and I might pick them up again before they disappear into the mist of the Pringles graveyard.

Ultra Cider

I got this from the vending machine in front of the place I work at. It’s Ultraman Cider! There are many different designs for the cans, each mimicking a specific Ultraman’s costume.

ultraman-cider-1

On the back of the can is info on that particular Ultraman.

ultraman-cider-2

The flavour was the normal Japanese cider taste, sweet and candy like. Maybe it’s for some anniversary or something, or maybe jsut to sell more cans.
