Funaoka Castle Park

Here’s some photos of Funaoka park during the day time. I took these on Saturday right at the height of the cherry blossoms blooming. Here you can see the giant statue on Kannon on top of the mountain surrounded by cherry blossoms.

Here’s where everyone was sitting. You can see the infamous ugly blue sheets that everyone uses for viewing the flowers.

They also had a small area for food and games.

We went to the top of the mountain where the statue was. It was huge!

Finally here is the view from the top of the mountain.

You can see all of the cherry trees along the river. There is supposedly over 1000 trees by the river, and they stretch out to other cities. Funaoka park is supposed to be one of the best places in Japan to see the cherry blossoms. I’m lucky because it’s about twenty minutes from my house.

  1. Is that in Wakuya? I think that’s one of the ugliest statues I’ve ever seen. I like it.

I missed the peak in Sendai since I was in Morioka. Hopefully I’ll see the peak there during Golden Week.

Nice pics Eric. We looked about getting a cherry blossom tree here but our winters are too cold. I still don’t get the difference between -15 and -25. Wouldn’t the tree be frozen at either temperature?

  3. What, no panoramic shot on the top of the mountain🙂 … nice pictures. Cherry blossom are all gone now in Tokyo😦
