Latest Pringles

Here’s a couple more types of Pringles chips to add to my on-going collection of flavors. This one is “Mayo Potato”. You can see the can is covered with cherry blossom flowers and leaves, which is the symbol of spring in Japan.

The other is not really new to me. I had previously had it many years ago in Europe.

It’s paprika flavor, which is just the Euro name for red peppers. Both were pretty good, but nothing really special. I’m awaiting some new mind blowing flavors. Mr. Pringles please work a little harder!

Truly Japanese Flavored Chips

I came across these two flavors of potato chips. The flavors are 100% Japanese. I don’t think you would find these any where else in the world. The first is “Sesame” flavor.

It tasted kind of like the sesame salad dressing or the dipping sauce for yakiniku (grilled meat). The second is “Yuzu Shoyu).

Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit. It’s kind like a cross between a tangerine and a lemon. Shoyu is just soy sauce. The flavor was interesting. If you can imagine what a salty tangerine potato chip would taste like, that’s pretty much the flavor. I liked it, but I don’t know if I would have it again. The sesame flavored ones I would definitely have again.

Tastes Like Tom Yum

Here is the next in the long line of new Pringles flavors I’ve been featuring from time to time. It’s part of their”Extreme” line. It’s  “Sweet Chili” flavor.

I thought it was very good. It had a hint of lime to it. I thought it tasted very similar to Tom Yum soup, a popular Thai dish.  There is a another new flavor, but I won’t be trying it. It’s some kind of mushroom flavor. I hate mushrooms, they are my kryptonite.

Pizza-La Doritos

One of my favorite pizza places ion Japan often has a collaboration with Doritos. Coming up with delicious pizza flavoured nacho chips. Much like the one below, “Cooked & Course Grinded Pork Italiana”. Of course they mean “ground” pork, not “grinded”, but that’s marketing departments fault.

The second one is just called “Italiana”. It was a tomato and cheese flavor. I think I liked the pork one more, since it had some meaty goodness.

Doritos in Japan are a little bit different that North American ones. They’re a bit thicker and crunchier, and there is no traditional nacho cheese flavors here. The basic flavour is Taco flavor. Now I have a craving for nacho Doritos.

Bruchetta

Yes! It’s another flavor of Pringles! Those wizards at the Pringles factory in Japan are at it again. This time it’s Bruchetta flavor. I have to say it was pretty good. What will these guys think up next? I hope it’s lobster flavor or maybe cheeseburger or something. Who knows!

Autumn Pringles

One thing that I’ve learned during the time I have been in Japan is that Pringles are seasonal. Recent summer selection of salsa and keema curry , are slowly disappearing to make way for more autumn flavours. The latest is Smoked Salami.

I have to say it’s quite delicious. I’m not sure what it has to do with the fall, but it does have pretty red leaves all over the can.

Pringles Curry

I got these the other day. Thay are curry flavoured pringles. More specifically “Keema” curry. Which is kind of like a dry curry with lots of ground meat. It’s quite delicious. The chips actually tasted a lot like the real thing. Too bad it’s just for their summer selection. That means it’ll be gone soon.

Swiss Pringles

Today I found a brand new flavor of Pringles, “Swiss Cheese Taste”. Swiss cheese being my favorite cheese I had to buy it. They were quite delicious and actually tasted like Swiss cheese. Over here new flavors of chips and snacks seem to come out every week or two. They stick around for a few weeks and then disappear forever. That can be sad if you really like the flavor.
