Sorry everyone. I haven’t been able to update everyone until now. We are all OK so far. Currently we have no water, land-line telephone and internet (still just my kindle). We just got power today. We weren’t affected by the tsunamis since we are thankfully surrounded by mountains. Also so far we haven’t been affected by the radiation problem in Fukushima. I am sorry but I still can’t access facebook. They are blocking my kindle from it. So until I have internet I wont be able to access it. So somebody please post a link of this page on my wall. Also sorry to all new commenters on the site. I can’t moderate comments on my kindle so it’ll have to wait until later.

Eric

We are so glad to see your post and hear that you guys are ok. I managed to use Carolyn’s facebook account to post a link to your blog on your wall. I spoke to some people who work in the emergency operations center at Foreign Affairs. Are you guys registered with the embassy? if you can email the address is sos@international.gc.ca – they’ll ask you for your full name, date of birth, passport number, current location, contact info in Japan, whether you’re a citizen or permanent resident of Canada and contact info for closest relatives in Canada – might be another way to stay connected (same goes for other Cdns in Japan reading your blog)

sorry the sos@international.gc.ca is to let the embassy know if you need help. to simply register with the embassy see https://www.voyage2.gc.ca/Registration_inscription/Register_Inscrire/Login_ouvrir-une-session-eng.aspx

  3. Glad to hear from you! Hang in there!

  4. I’m glad to hear that your OK. I had been checking this blog almost daily waiting for your next post to say you’re OK.

Great to hear from you. We were all worried.

    • Sorry I couldn’t update everyone sooner. I only got steady internet on my kindle yesterday. I was really hard to write a post on it, but it’s better than nothing.

Glad to hear your are alright. I guess without water you are finding out how deep your father in-laws whisky collection is. Wishing you all the best. I am sure that in a couple of weeks things will be all back to normal.

    Chris and Erika.

    • Things are starting to get back to normal a bit. I would still like some running water so I wash myself, but hey I have internet now so it’s not all bad.

Glad you are okay Eric. Time to brush off that Canadian passport and head home, eh? We have been keeping an eye on the news and it looks like Japan isn’t getting much of a break. It is heartbreaking to see all the devastation. Stay safe.

    • Yeah things just seem to be piling on over here. Yesterday it was hailing! I’m lucky I live on the other side of the mountains. Just 15-20 minutes away half of a town disappeared after the tsunami.

  8. Good to hear that you are safe .. sending our thoughts and prayers there.

Great to hear from you Eric! Last Friday, after learning about the disaster, I did some furious detective work and was reassured to see the mountain range on Google maps. Still can’t imagine what it must be like for you guys over there. Been checking your blog & Facebook ever since. I hope Japan catches a break soon. Stay safe.

(PS. It would be pretty funny if your next post after this was another closeup of a cheeseburger.)
