Here’s another train manners poster. This time it’s terrible teenagers sitting on the floor right at the door. This actually happens all of the time, and it’s a real pain getting on and off the train since they don’t move out of the way. It’s one of my big pet peeves regarding manners in Japan.
I never saw that in Tokyo. They would lose their legs at the first stop.
It must be a country side thing.
Sendai is not the countryside. It’s a pretty big city.
It happens in Tokyo sometimes. But, at least in my experience, most people (regardless of age) don’t sit on the floor…it’s not so common; and they don’t sit like in that picture (right in front of the door); and they move when they’re in your way.
Maybe teenagers are worse in Sendai, because they often sit on the floor right at the door.
Maybe that was why me and my friend were getting told off by an old man on the train.
Yes, it’s rude in Japan to sit down where you might inconvenience others (on the floor of the train, on the floor of a any public building (shop, library, mall, etc), on stairs, etc…).
Old men are always grumpy in Japan, and usually drunk if it’s late at night on the train. 😉
I never thought its like that at all. A pen pal of mine lives in Sendai and I must say its a pretty city, even my Dad said the same although he is pretty much fond of Iwate as his close Japanese friend works there.
The city is very nice, and I think it’s one of the best in Japan. Unfortunately like the rest of the world there’s always some rude people in every city.
I love these subway manner posters – I look forward to it (a new one) every month 🙂
I like them too. The artwork is great.
