I Saw Subway

9 10 2009

You know you’ve been away from home for too long when you get super excited seeing a Subway restaurant. If it had been a Quiznos, I might have died on the spot!

This was at Narita airport. I was so happy. It had been over a year and a half since I had a submarine sandwich. I proceeded to gobble one down with gusto! (I got a 6 inch tandoori chicken and a 6 inch roast beef in case anyone was wondering. Delicious!!)

I guess you don’t have Subway in Sendai. Here in Tokyo, you can find Subway restaurants, and there is one even in my neighborhood so I have eaten there already a couple of times … agree it was delicious!

For some reason Sendai seems to be the one major city in Japan that get the shaft on certain franchises.

I really, really want Wendy’s to come here.

Well I have good news for you. There is actually a Wendy’s in Miyagi. I think it’s in Izumi or something.

I know what you mean, I was so happy when they opened a Subway in Nijmegen, then handed out free sub coupons for the grand opening, it was awesome!! Now all I need is a Harvey’s or a KFC, although there is a KFC in the next town over, but they don’t have gravy, crazy eh.

They don’t have the gravy here either. It makes me feel sad….

This is why I love living in the big city!

I remember, though, when the first Subway shop in Japan opened. It was in Ginza…about fifteen years ago.

I was very happy!

Subway sandwiches are much better in Japan than in America!
(Which reminds me…the last time I visited America, I went to a Subway shop and showed my point card from Subway Japan and the kid behind the counter was so excited by it that he gave me a free sandwich for the card (with only one stamp on it)).

They are pretty good, but they’re missing one important element in Japan…..no meatball subs!

Well, there are also lots of KFC and Wendys (also Burger King) in Tokyo, although no Harveys (is this a Canadian or US chain?). I would love to see Tim Hortons (Canadian coffee shop) in Japan.

As far as I know Harvey’s is only in Canada. I’d say were pretty lucky we have it!

does anyone know if gift cards purchase in the USA from Subway and or Wendy’s can be used in Japan?

I believe that they would only work in the USA, and maybe Canada.
